Being There When a Family Needed It Most
When a client came home for end-of-life care, Lisa helped bring together practical support and something just as important: a quiet moment for his wife.

Coming home for the final chapter
Early in Lisa's time back with DANS, one of her clients was preparing to return home for end-of-life care. For his family, home offered familiarity and comfort, but it also meant putting the right services, equipment and support in place quickly.
Turning urgency into calm
The DANS team worked behind the scenes to coordinate what was needed, helping create a calmer environment for the client and the people closest to him. In the middle of that activity, Lisa recognised that the client's wife needed support of her own.
A moment no care plan can schedule
Lisa sat with her, held her as she cried and listened to stories about the life she had shared with her husband. It was a quiet act, but it captured something essential about home care: the work is not only about completing tasks. It is also about noticing when a person simply needs someone beside them.
Why the moment stayed with Lisa
Happy milestones are easy to celebrate. Being welcomed into a family's hardest moments carries a different kind of meaning. For Lisa, it reinforced both the privilege and the responsibility that come with supporting people in their own homes.
“I realised we all love to be part of the happy moments and the uplifting moments, but it was such an honour to be able to provide support to her during such a huge moment in their lives.”
